A repeatable setup that works in almost any room, using gear that is usually available.
Key each subject with one soft source at roughly 45 degrees off their nose and slightly above eye line. A 300D through a softbox is plenty for an interior. The third fixture goes behind them, aimed at the background, to separate the subjects from the wall.
If the two people are facing each other rather than the camera, a single large key between them, feathered, often reads better than two separate keys — and it frees a fixture for the background.
Rooms with white walls will bounce your key back as unwanted fill and flatten the image. Negative fill — a black flag or even a dark cloth on a stand — costs nothing to add and does more for the look than another light.
Two 300D-class fixtures with modifiers, one smaller unit for the background, three stands, and sandbags. Add a flag kit if the room is bright. If you are also recording audio, book the lavalier kit at the same time so we can check the whole package together.
