Lighting a two-person interview with three fixtures
A repeatable setup that works in almost any room, using gear that is usually available.
Both are on the shelf and the price difference is real. Here is how to choose based on what you are actually shooting.
The A7S III is built for low light and video: a 12MP sensor with much larger photosites, internal 10-bit recording, and a fully articulating screen. The A7 III is a 24MP hybrid — better for stills, perfectly capable for video, and noticeably cheaper per day.
If you are shooting a wedding reception, a night exterior, or anything lit by whatever the venue has, the A7S III earns its rate. If you are shooting a controlled interview, a product table-top or a daylight event, the A7 III will not hold you back.
Neither body ships with media. Add cards, and add more than you think: 10-bit footage fills a card faster than most people expect.
For either body, an external monitor makes focus far easier to judge than the rear screen, and a V-mount battery with a D-tap will outlast the internal cells on a full shoot day.
